Iga Swiatek v Harriet Dart Head to Head

This will be their first meeting on the WTA Tour.

Swiatek Coming Off a Good Start to 2022

Iga Swiatek will be quite pleased with the start she has had to the new season. She was the semifinalist in the Adelaide International 1, beating two Grand-Slam finalists – Leylah Fernandez and Victoria Azarenka. The Pole ultimately lost to Ashleigh Barty but that performance has certainly primed her well for Melbourne.

She has picked up right where she left – Swiatek ended the last term as World No. 9 after briefly reaching her career-best at the #4 position. The 20-year-old won two titles (WTA Adelaide and Italian Open) and also reached the quarterfinal in the French Open.

Given her steady rise in the last four seasons, it finally seems like Swiatek is ready to establish herself with the elites. She is a consistent player and had an impressive 71% win rate on the tour last year.

Dart Breezes Through Qualifiers

Starting as a qualifier in the Aus Open 2022, Harriet Dart sailed with relative ease in her three fixtures. She never seemed to be in any difficulties, losing just 16 games in total.

Her first win was a straight-set one against Federica Di Sarra, followed by a three-setter against Alycia Parks. Her last match was against the local Kimberly Birrell, which she won 6-3, 6-3.

But whether can she take on a player of Swiatek’s calibre is something that only time will tell. Her prospects, for now, aren’t that great. The handful of success that Dart enjoyed last year came only in ITF and Challenger events. In the main WTA events, the 25-year-old Brit lost mainly in the early stages and doesn’t boast of a decent record against the top players either.

Her personal best in Melbourne is a second-round run in 2020, followed by a first-round qualifying exit in 2021.
