Hurkacz Will Look to Make a Deep Run

Hubbert Hurkacz had an impressive start to the season, as he led Poland to the semifinals of the ATP Cup, winning all three of his singles matches in the group stages. He suffered a tough loss  in the semifinals against Roberto Bautista Agut as a result of which Poland were eliminated and Spain went on to reach the final only to finish runner-up to Canada.

At the Australian Open, Hurkacz ousted Egor Gerasimov in the first round, but was upset by Adrian Mannarino in the Round of 64. Now he heads to Rotterdam with hopes of a better showing than the past two years.

The Pole was eliminated by Stefanos Tsitsipas in both his previous appearances, and is yet to go past the second round of the tournament. This year, the fourth seed will fancy his chances of making a deep run though. Currently ranked No. 11, the 2021 Wimbledon semifinalist had an outstanding 36-23 season last year which included three titles, in Miami, Metz and Delray Beach.

Having lost his place in the top 10 last month, the 24-year-old will be aiming to climb back the rankings with a solid showing in Rotterdam.

Tsonga Looking to Regain Form

Making a comeback on the tour in Montpellier this week, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga scored his first tour-level win since March 2021 and just his second since 2019, when he defeated Polish qualifier Kacper Zuk in the first round.

However, the Frenchman failed to win two consecutive matches for the first time since 2019, going down to Filip Krajinovic in the second round in straight sets.

A champion in Rotterdam in 2017 and a finalist in 2011, the 36-year-old has a 13-5 record in the tournament. The 18-time tour-level champion last appeared in the tournament in 2019, where he could only make as far as the quarterfinal.

Since a pretty good 2019 season, Tsonga has struggled over the last two years, owing to which he has seen a sharp fall in the rankings.

Currently ranked No. 259th in the world, the Frenchman  played just two matches and lost both in 2020 and went 1-8 in 2021. He also suffered a leg injury last year that brought his season to a pre-mature end. Can Tsonga regain form in Rotterdam.

Hurkacz v Tsonga Prediction and Tip

Tsonga’s recent struggles mean that Hurkacz will be the favourite to win the contest. Expect the Polish player to advance with ease.
