Arthur Rinderknech v Soowoo Kwon Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, just a month ago in Adelaide, Rinderknech winning in three sets.

Rinderknech Back After Wrist Injury

Rinderknech’s year began at the ATP Cup, playing for France, although he only won three of the singles matches, he played.

However, he then found some form in Adelaide, reaching his second senior ATP semi-final – – the first coming in Kitzbuhel last year – and beating Karen Khachanov along the way, as well as Kwon, before losing to Thanasi Kokkinakis, who would go on to become Australian Open doubles champion.

The Frenchman would have been hoping for a deep run in Melbourne, but, after beating Alexei Popyrin of Australia in five sets in the first round, he had to pull out of his second round tie with Dan Evan of Great Britain with a wrist injury.

He has not played since, having skipped his home event in Montpellier to give himself more time to recover.

Nur-Sultan Winner Kwon

Kwon was the surprise winner of the Astana Open in Nur-Sultan last September, but there has been little indication since that he is likely to repeat that success in the near future.

He lost his only other match after that in 2021 in Indian Wells, before making his season’s debut this year in Adelaide.

In the first version of the tournament, he beat Yoshida Nishioka of Japan in the first round, but then was beaten in straight sets by the Swede Mikael Ymer.

The following week it was the same story – a first round victory, this time over Lloyd Harris of South Africa, the world number 34, before Rinderknech ended his involvement in the tournament.

The South Korean can take some heart from his performances in Melbourne at the Australian Open, fighting his way past the Dane, Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune in the first round, in a five setter.

And he also took Denis Shapovalov, who would go on to reach the semi-finals, to five sets in their second round match, and led the Canadian by a set, before eventually succumbing.

Last week in Montpellier it was by now a familiar story – a first round victory over Hugo Gaston of France, followed by yet another second round defeat, this time at the hands of another French player Richard Gasquet.

Rinderknech v Kwon Prediction and Tip

Provided that Rinderknech is recovered from his injury, he should have the edge, having beaten the South Korean in their only previous match just a few weeks ago.
