Richard Gasquet v Mikael Ymer Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, both matches taking place on  French soil and both involving three sets. Ymer won their match in this tournament in 2020, and again in Montpellier, ten days ago.

Gasquet Struggling with Covid

Gasquet was once a top ten player and has won 15 ATP finals in his career, but he reached his first final in three years in 2021 in Croatia, as he has battled with inconsistency.

He has also suffered the misfortune of testing positive for Covid three times in the past two years, and that has further hindered his preparations.

Fitness issues affected his Australian Open campaign – having beaten compatriot Ugo Humbert in the first round, he was forced to withdraw from his match with Boric van de Zandschulp in the second round, with the score one set all, but with Zandschulp two breaks up in the third,

He enjoyed better fortune in Montpellier, beating first Humbert again, and then Soonwoo Kwon of South Korea.

His run was ended by Ymer, with the two sharing the first two sets, before the Swede ran away with the third.

Ymer Can Draw Inspiration from Montpellier

Ymer enjoyed a breakthrough in 2021, reaching his first final in Winston-Salem in August.

Although he failed to build on that in the rest of the year, already 2002 has provided some hopeful signs that he may be able to continue climbing the rankings.

He began the year by reaching the quarter-finals in Adelaide, and, although he had the misfortune to meet Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round of the Australian Open, it is how he performed in his next tournament, in Montpellier, that will give him great heart.

In particular, his second round thrashing of local favourite and world number 16, Gael Monfils, caught the eye,  He then battled past Gasquet before the top seed Alexander Zverev outclassed him in the semi-final.

A first round defeat last week to the Italian, Lorenzo Musetti in Rotterdam, was a reminder how tough the ATP tour can be.

Gasquet v Ymer Prediction and Tip

The fact that these two met less than two weeks ago is a useful form guide. Ymer won that match, and will be hoping he can beat Gasquet again on home soil.

Tip: Ymer to win: 4/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
