Simona Halep v Jelena Ostapenko Head to Head
It’s 1-1 between the two players with both those meetings taking place in 2017. Halep won their last encounter in the Beijing Open in straight sets.

World No. 23 Simona Halep has played some superb tennis over the last week as she looks to reclaim her former glory. The Romanian is just two wins away from bagging her second WTA title of the season and possibly a place back in the top 20.
In the quarterfinal, Halep dismantled the number 10 seed Ons Jabeur with 6-4, 6-3 by capitalising on the Tunisian’s 45 unforced errors. In the preceding rounds, she overcame the likes of Alison Riske and Elena-Gabriela Ruse with a similar score.
So far in 2022, the 30-year-old has won the title in Melbourne 250 and followed it with a fourth-round stint in the Australian Open.
The former world number one has picked up right where she left off last season. She ended the year with a semifinal stint in the Linz and a runner-up feat in the Transylvania Open.
As a two-time champion in Dubai, Halep will fancy her prospects of at least reaching the final once again.

Ostapenko Survives Kvitova
Jelena Ostapenko is having quite a week in Dubai, having beaten a litany of Grand Slam champions to reach the semis.
Her most recent victim was Petra Kvitova, whom she beat 5-7, 7-5, 7-6(9) in two hours and 42 minutes. The Latvian saved a match point in the final set tiebreak and kept her calm to dislodge the Czech.
In the previous rounds, Ostapenko ousted Sofia Kenin and Iga Swiatek to establish her dominance. With this performance, the 24-year-old has reached her second consecutive semifinal on the tour. Last week, the #21-ranked player also made it to the final four in St. Petersburg but lost to the eventual champion Anett Kontaveit.
Like Halep, Ostapenko too is enjoying her resurgence which began last season in Eastbourne. She won the title there and later was a runner-up in Luxembourg and a semifinalist in Indian Wells.
Ostapenko is also slated to play in the doubles semifinal here with Lyudmyla Kichenok.
Halep v Ostapenko Prediction and Tip
This is a game that can very well go either way. Halep will start as the favourite owing to her much superior pedigree and experience. However, Ostapenko is in a fine form and will give the Romanian a run for her money.
