Sofia Kenin v Ann Li Head to Head

Kenin leads 2-0 head to head, having won a qualifying round in Miami in 2018 and at the Australian Open in 2020.

Kenin Has Lost the Last Four

2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin comes to Doha in poor touch, having lost her last four matches.

The 23-year-old American, who was beaten by Ash Barty in the quarterfinals of her season opener in Adelaide, made first round exits from Sydney International, the Australian Open and the Dubai International Championships.

While 2020 was a breakthrough year for Kenin, who won the Melbourne major and finished runner-up at Roland Garros, 2021 was a year of struggle. Her poor form has spilled to 2022, where she has a 2-4 record.

This will be Kenin’s second appearance in Doha. Her first wasn’t a great one as she lost in the second round in 2020 after receiving a first-round bye.

Her two wins this year came against Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti and Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic in the first two rounds in Adelaide. Can she end her losing run at the Qatar Open?

Li on Three-Match Losing Streak

Like Kenin, Li too is on a three-match losing run.

The World No. 57 began the season well, defeating Egypt’s Mayar Sherif, Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova and Russia’s Kamilla Rakhimova to reach the semifinals of Melbourne Summer Set 2. But the American lost to Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the semifinal and then suffered first-round losses to China’s Wang Xinyu at the Australian Open and to Ajla Tomljanovic in Dubai.

A winner in Tenerife and a finalist at the Grampians Trophy last year, the 21-year-old will be making her debut in Doha.

Coming up against another struggling player, Li will fancy her chances in the first round.

Kenin v Li Prediction and Tip

It’s a battle between two players looking to get back to winning ways.  Expect a three-setter with Kenin advancing.
