Federico Coria v Yannick Hnafmann Head to Head

Coria and Hanfmann played four times so far with the Argentinian winning every single match. Three of them came a long time ago with the latest one being played last year in Bastad. Coria won that match 6-2 6-1 en route to the final of the event.

Coria Finding Form on Clay

Federico Coria is a solid clay player with the Argentinian scoring some nice wins in the past few weeks. He is nearing the top 50 on the rankings and a solid run in Santiago could enable that. His best event in the golden slam swing came last week in Rio where he scored a huge win against Christian Garin.

The Chilean is not playing in great form but it was a great win for Coria who followed it up with a win over Fernando Verdasco. He then lost to Fabio Fognini. Overall it’s been a solid stretch of play for Coria who will have a decent chance to score some more points in Sntiago.

He got Hanfmann in the first round, a player he owns in the H2H. The German never won a match against him and their latest one last year was a thrashing where Hanfmann only won three games.

Inconsistent Play From Hanfmann

German veteran Hanfmann elected to continue the 2022 season on clay in South America and the decision has not really paid off. The German does play rather well on the surface usually et his level so far has been very inconsistent. It was only in Cordoba that he played in the main draw and it was a match against Londero which the Argentinian easily won.

In each of the next events, he was forced to play in the qualifiers. He won one match in both but failed to reach the main draw in either. Santiago gives him another chance but the draw was not very kind. It paired him up with Coria who is a measured opponent for the German but their H2H matchup heavily favours the Argentinian.

Hanfmann failed to win either of the four matches they played against each other and things might not look too good for him in this one as well. Coria is the better clay-court player and the better mover on the surface and he will be favoured to win again.

Coria v Hanfmann Prediction and Tip

There is not much to write about this matchup because things are rather clear. In 2022 Hnamfna has played okay but most of his wins came on hard courts. On clay, he really struggled especially against South Americans in their own backyard.

Coria is another one of those players who excels on this surface and is very familiar with the courts on the Continent. He also owns a 4-0 record against Hanfmann with their latest match played last year in Bastad. Coria won that one 6-2 6-1 and it’s hard to ignore that sore.

Generally, Coria performed better on clay this year and wins over Verdasco and Garin are not to be dismissed lightly. Take the Argentinian in this one.
