Jasmine Paolini v Katie Boulter Head to Head

Boulter leads 1-0 although, that sole victory over the Brit came in an ITF event in Italy in 2014.

Paolini, Looking to Build on Recent Form

Jasmine Paolini is heading into this year’s Indian Wells Open on the back of a shaky start to the season. Following a litany of early-round exits in the Australian Open, the Italian then moved to the Middle East Swing where she continued in the same vein.

Despite a lack of showing, Paolini managed to reach her career-best ranking at World No. 44 – just two places shy of her current position. Last week she delivered her best result of the year so far by reaching the quarterfinal in Lyon. While the 26-year-old managed to overcome Irina Bara and Tamara Korpatsch, she ultimately succumbed to Dayana Yastremska.

Paolini also has a rich history in this Cali tournament.

Last October she reached the third round here as a qualifier and ended up later ended up as a semifinalist in Courmayeur. Add to this equation her form from last year, she has a good chance in this opener.

Boulter Shines in the Qualifiers

Starting as a qualifier, world number 127 Katie Boulter had a good practice run in the build-up to the main draw. She first knocked out the number six seed, rising Chinese prodigy Xinyu Wang 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 and followed it with a straight-set win over former World No. 5 Sara Errani.

Looking at her recent form, the Brit has been fairly impressive and does carry a bit of momentum with her. Early last month, she won the ITF title in Grenoble and later reached the second round in Lyon – after winning two qualifying games and the opener.

This also marks her best showing in the BNP Paribas Open – in her last two attempts, Boulter never made it past the preliminary stage.

Paolini v Boulter Prediction and Tip

Objectively, Boulter has some tempo to her game but lacks the main-tour pedigree – something that Paolini has in abundance when compared.

That said, while Paolini should win this one, Boulter is capable of pulling the upset and does make for a good underdog prediction.

Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
