Tereza Martincova v Heather Watson Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two players on the tour.

Martincova, Looking Sharp

Tereza Martincova will look to better her performance in the Indian Wells by going beyond the second round this season. While her chances of winning the opener are decent, she will face defending champion Paula Baodsa in the next match.

Even then, the Czech is a player who is more than capable of pulling the surprise. Most recently in Doha, she reached the round of 16 after defeating Elina Svitolina and Arantxa Rus. Martincova put up a solid fight against Ons Jabeur but ended up losing in three sets.

Before that, she made it to the quarterfinal in the St. Petersburg Trophy. Moreover, in the Australian swing, No. 42-ranked Martincova reached the women’s doubles final in Melbourne Set and Adelaide.

Clearly, she has played a fair bit of tennis and has honed her skills sharply in the process. She has also been more consistent than Watson, giving her an edge in this match.

Watson, Standing on Shaky Grounds

Starting as a qualifier in Indian Wells, Heather Watson had to take the long route to the main draw. She first overcame Rebeka Makarova and followed it with a three-set win over Mai Hontama.

Currently ranked world number 113, Watson has never won more than two matches in any tournament this season. Her best run came at the Australian Open where she reached the second round – thus walking away with 70 ranking points.

Looking at her history in this tournament, Watson’s best stint came in 2015 when she reached the fourth round. Since then, she has consistently fallen in the opening games. In fact, such has been the case for a majority of her recent oeuvre.

Martincova v Watson Prediction and Tip

Given Martincova’s overall form, she should do well to win this one – however, she may be pushed to the limit by Watson and taken to three sets.

Tip: Martincova to win: 2/7 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
