Mayar Sherif v Magdalena Frech Head to Head
There have been no previous meetings between Sherif and Frech.

It’s not been a year to remember for Sherif, not so far anyway.
The Egyptian number one has lost matches regularly, and so dire was the situation that it took her an opponent ranked 205th in the world to finally register a victory. That win came on the back of five successive defeats, all of them in round one of competitions.
And even that victory over Seone Mendez took Sherif three sets before she went down fighting in the second round to Wang Qiang.
So while Sherif is ranked 67th in the world thanks to some solid performances last year, she would know she has just not been able to get going which makes it difficult even against a lower-ranked opponent.

Frech’s Form No Better
This can be expected to be a match between two players struggling for form and a win here for either could make life so much easier. Because even Frech has just won one main draw match this season.
After failing to qualify for the Melbourne Summer Set 1, Frech fell in the first round at Sydney and at Australian Open and then in the WTA Dubai qualifiers.
It was only in Guadalajara where Frech won her first ever round of the season, beating Renata Zarazua in a difficult three-setter. Before the dust could settle, Frech was taken down 6-0, 6-2 in the second round by Sara Sorribes Tormo.
Another first round loss followed at Monterrey before Daria Saville got the better of Frech in the qualifiers in this tournament too. It was only the withdrawal of Barbora Krejcikova that allowed Frech a chance in the main draw.
