Wang Qiang v Marie Bouzkova Head to Head
There have been two previous matches played between these two players and the head to head is tied at 1-1.
The first time they met was back in 2019 in Wuhan where Wang had won in straight sets but more recently, last month, Bouzkova extracted her revenge with a victory in Guadalajara. Interestingly, both those matches ended with identical, 6-3, 6-3 scorelines.

Things have come to such a head that Qiang, once ranked 12th in the world and having beaten Serena Williams at Australian Open, is now struggling to make it to the main draws of tournaments like these which have 96 players featuring in round one.
That said, Qiang is showing some of the spark from the past in recent times.
For starters she made it to the third round at Australian Open, and followed it up with a semifinal appearance in Guadalajara – it was here she lost to Bouzkova. More recently in Monterrey, Qiang was a quarterfinalist and even in the qualifiers here in Indian Wells she did not have too many difficulties.
In fact in the first round Qiang registered a double-bagel against Theadora Rabman before crushing the in-form Anna Kalinskaya in the second to enter the main draw. Can she carry this form forward?

Bouzkova Will be Happy with Her Form
After successive years of struggles at the highest level, Bouzkova would be slightly more pleased with the kind of form she has shown this season.
She has participated in four tournaments before this and each time won at least one main draw round. Bouzkova’s best, however, came at Guadalajara where she reached the final with wins over Sara Sorribes Tormo and Bouzkova before falling to Sloane Stephens.
At Monterrey, Bouzkova got the better of Petra Martic and Sara Errani as well, but couldn’t go past Beatriz Haddad Maia in the quarterfinals. The Czech player would have regretted that loss given she was up a set against a player who was 4/3 at the start of the match to win it.
But with back to back wins in the qualifiers, Bouzkova looks to have settled in nicely and will be confident against a tricky opponent.
