Facundo Bagnis v Henri Laaksonen Head to Head

Bagnis and Laaksonen have no previous history at any level.

Bagnis Playing Indian Wells For 3rd Time

Facundo Bagnis is known for his clay-court prowess, but produced one of the upsets of the year in the opening week of the 2022 season.

The Argentine lefty stunned former World No. 1, Andy Murray, at the Melbourne Summer Set 1. Sadly for Bagnis, he has not won another hard-court match since. He lost to Grigor Dimitrov in the subsequent round of that tournament and suffered a heartbreaking defeat to fellow South American Cristian Garin in the first round of the Australian Open.

It did not come as a surprise when Bagnis made the trip back home to compete at the Golden Swing, instead of touring around Europe for the indoor hard court swing. But he was far from his free-flowing best in Cordoba and Buenos Aires. And in Rio, he was pitted against the mercurial Fabio Fognini who dismissed him easily.

Bagnis improved to 3-7 for the season in Santiago towards the end of February, picking up a couple of confidence-boosting wins. Only an in-form Albert Ramos Vinolas prevented him from going beyond the quarterfinals.

Laaksonen Seeks Rare Main Draw Win

Henri Laaksonen has only won one main draw match at tour level this season. And that came from the opening week of the ATP calendar at the Melbourne Summer Set 1.

Ironically, Laaksonen got into that tournament as a lucky loser, having fallen in the final round of qualifying. Victory over Benoit Paire two months ago remains his only success. But Laaksonen did experience that winning touch last weekend when he took part in Switzerland’s Davis Cup team and won a pair of singles rubber.

The 29-year-old has already made his top-100 debut which should guarantee a place at all four Grand Slams without the need to qualify and at most ATP Masters 1000 tournamnets.

Laaksonen has only ever played in the main draw of Indian Wells once before, five years ago. He came through the qualifiers and scored a fine win over Borna Coric – his only win at the desert thus far.

Bagnis v Laaksonen Prediction and Tip

Strangely enough, Laaksonen has done so well against top-tier opposition. He competed bravely against Daniil Medvedev at the Australian Open in the first round and might have stretched that match to four sets. Nonetheless, it is matches against the low-caliber opponents which he has struggled to impose himself. This looks like the kind of matchup that could go the distance.

Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
