Aryna Sabalenka v Jasmine Paolini Head to Head

Their only meeting on the WTA circuit had come in Linz in 2020 and Sabalenka had won it in straight sets to move into the second round.

Sabalenka Not at Her Best Yet

For a player of the calibre of Sabalenka, her season hasn’t gone the way she would have liked so far. The Belarusian player has won just six of the 11 matches she has played this season and has failed to progress past winning three matches in a row in any of the competitions in 2022.

What might make it worse for her is some of those defeats have come against players she should not be losing to regularly on the circuit given her own stature.

For instance, a first round loss at Adelaide to Kaja Juvan was a shocker after having gone into the encounter at 1/5 odds to win it.

Another opening defeat to Rebecca Peterson in the second tournament played in the same city was more than surprising while her fourth round loss at the Australian Open came at the hands of Kaia Kanepi.

Can she turn things around and aim to get through to at least fourth round here, her best ever showing in Indian Wells?

Paolini Bolts Past Boulter

Paolini was 8/11 favourite coming up against Katie Boulter in her first round encounter and she clinched the match like she would have liked to – in straight sets and in double quick time.

The Italian and world number 46 was on court for an hour and 21 minutes as she stormed to a 6-3, 6-2 win to reach the second round.

And while she was broken twice in the encounter – her 60% first serve wins not coming to her rescue as often as she would have liked – Paolini got herself five breaks of serves of her own. Interestingly, she won the point every single time she got a chance to break serve.

Can she take this form forward against Sabalenka too?

Sabalenka v Paolini Prediction and Tip

Sabalenka should get through to a win here but Paolini could make it difficult for her far superior opponent.

Tip: Sabalenka to win AND Over 18.5 games in the match: 11/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
