Maria Sakkari v Katerina Siniakova Head to Head

There have been four previous meetings between these two players, all of which have come on the Grand Slam level. The head to head scoreline reads 2-2.

Sakkari won their 2017 meeting at Wimbledon, Siniakova then won back to back matches in 2018 and 2019 before the Greek number one clinched their US Open tie last season.

Sakkari Getting into Her Own

After a second round exit at Adelaide International in the first competition of the season, Sakkari has been slowly making her way back into good form.

A fourth round exit at Australian Open might have disappointed the Greek number one but she followed that up with a St. Petersburg Open showing that would have warmed her heart.

Wins over Ekaterina Alexandrova and Elise Mertens took her to the final in that tournament, where she went down fighting to Anett Kontaveit. But better days were to come in Doha, where, despite falling in the semifinal, Sakkari got past Ann Li, Jessica Pegula and Cori Gauff.

A solid player, Sakkari should kick-start her campaign in this tournament, where she was ousted in the second round last season, with a lot more confidence this time around.

Siniakova Edges Past Begu

World number 55 Siniakova did not have an easy first round opponent in the form of Irina Camelia Begu and that showed in the manner in which the match went.

Siniakova finally triumphed in three sets, winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 to set up this meeting against Sakkari.

In a match lasting two hours and 54 minutes, Siniakova overcame 14 double faults and six breaks of serves against her to clinch the match with a crucial break in the ninth game of the final set.

What Siniakova will need to do coming up against Sakkari is improve upon her first serve points won from the lowly 60%. She might have got away against a player ranked 72nd in the world but Sakkari will be a tougher nut to crack.

Sakkari v Siniakova Prediction and Tip

Sakkari hasn’t played in about 15 days and the one chance that Siniakova has here is to take advantage of that rustiness but at most she can be expected to win a set.

Tip: Sakkari to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
