Ugo Humbert v Holger Rune Head to Head

World No. 42 Ugo Humbert had a terrific start to the year, defeating Daniil Medvedev in the opening match of the ATP Cup. But the stunning come-from-behind win over the then World No. 2 and the current World No. 1, remains his only win of the season.
The 23-year-old Frenchman then lost to Matteo Berrettini and Alex de Minaur at the ATP Cup and followed it up with first round defeats at the Australian Open, Montpellier Open and the Rotterdam Open. The defeats in the former two came against compatriot Richard Gasquet, while Cameron Norrie eased past the Frenchman in Rotterdam.
The 23-year-old left-hander won the grass court championship at Halle last year, which took his career title to three, after he won two hard court tournaments in 2020.
This will be his second appearance in Indian Wells. He lost his debut match in 2019.

Rune Qualifies for Maiden Indian Wells
Facing Humbert will be 18-year-old Holger Rune, who himself has won just one main draw match this season.
The Danish player’s only win came against Belgium’s Zizou Bergs in Marseille. He came very close to winning another at the Australian Open after having taken a two-sets-to-one lead in the first round against Soonwoo Kwon, but went down in five.
Ruun, who impressed last year by reaching the quarterfinals in Santiago and Metz, also made first round exits from Adelaide, Cordoba, Buenos Aires and Santiago this year. He lost in the second round in Marseille to Aslan Karatsev.
Ruun qualified for his maiden Indian Wells Open by defeating two Americans. He first edged out Mitchell Krueger in three in the first qualifying round and then defeated Stefan Kozlov in straight sets on Thursday to make the main draw.
