Casper Ruud v Cameron Norrie Head to Head

Ruud has beaten Norrie in each of their previous tour-level meetings in 2021. First, in the finals of San Diego for the loss of two games and more recently in the Round Robin stage at the ATP Finals in Turin.

Ruud Routines Bublik

Casper Ruud is going from strength to strength at the Miami Open, picking up another routine win in the Florida sunshine. The Russian barely took an hour to defeat the flamboyant Alexander Bublik in straight sets.

Ruud, who won his first-ever main draw match at the Miami Open on Saturday when he beat Laaksonen in 50 minutes, is looking to atone for the last week’s third-round exit at Indian Wells.

The Norwegian was expected to face a stern test against the improving Bublik, who has enjoyed a brilliant introduction to life in 2022. The Kazakh won a maiden ATP title last month on the indoor hard courts of Montpellier, but struggled to accommodate his flashy playing style in the outdoor conditions in Miami.

Ruud’s heavy top-spin was the cornerstone to everything good he did during the match. He broke Bublik in the eighth game of the first set and went on to hold to love to take a one-set cushion. The second set was one-way traffic as Ruud broke his opponent three times, finishing the match with a clean smash in the empty court.

His two wins at the weekend have seen him reach double-digit wins for the year. Can Ruud extend his winning streak over British lefty Cameron Norrie?

Norrie Overcomes Gaston

Cameron Norrie’s unsuccessful title defense at Indian Wells has only gone on to spur the Briton to even greater heights this fortnight at the Miami Open. Norrie is set to reach the Top 10 of the ATP rankings for the first time at the end of the tournament and will look to end the week on a high note.

The British No. 1 is into the fourth round of the event for the first time after digging deep to withstand the challenges of Jack Draper and then Hugo Gaston, without dropping a set.

Both players exchanged breaks at the start of the match, but it was Norrie who asserted control of the first set by breaking the Frenchman in the fourth game and staying solid on his own delivery to win the set 6-3.

The second set was full of drama and tension. Norrie secured a crucial break and moved 5-3 up. But the French left-hander saved five matches in the next game on his own serve to force Norrie to serve it out. Somehow, against the run of play, Norrie failed to do so. But almost immediately, he restored his advantage before going to serve for the match successfully in game 12.

Ruud v Norrie Prediction and Tip

Ruud is underestimated on hard courts despite his preference for clay. This could be a lost cause if Norrie plays the patient game and waits for unforced errors. The Norwegian has not faced a single break point en route to the fourth round, and if his numbers are anything to go by, he should be the favorite to reach the last eight.
