Elise Mertens v Rebecca Peterson Head to Head

They played three times before with Mertens winning all three of those matches. The most recent one came at last year’s US Open and she won that 3-6 7-6(5) 7-6(5).

Mertens Ready For a Trophy

Elise Mertens travelled to Istanbul after playing a very mediocre season so far. The Belgian player is a very good player but her most recent tennis has not been her best. It’s a trend that has been going on for a while and while disappointing she might find more success on clay.

It’s been a very good surface for her so far in her career and with her being the number one seed in Istanbul she might get some wins and possibly even a trophy. 9-7 is the record so far with two lacklustre performances at the Sunshine double.

She reached the 3rd round in Indian Wells losing to Daria Saville and then in Miami she got bested by 16-year old phenom Linda Fruhvirtova. She can do better and she must if she hopes to continue staying at the top of world tennis.

Peterson Looking to Build Consistency

Rebecca Peterson has been playing a pretty solid year so far with the Swedish player having a 9-5 record on the year. She’s already played some clay tennis unlike her opponent and that might suit her well in an atchup where she created a lot of trouble the last time they played.

Peterson recently return from a long layoff as she battled injuries with the WTA event in Bogota her first one in over two months. She played pretty solid there ultimately losing to eventual champion Tatiana Maria in straight sets. Before her layoff, Peterson was playing well on indoor hard courts as well.

A pretty solid player on clay, she will look to build some consistency before the big events start on this surface leading up to the French Open later this year.

Mertens v Peterson Prediction and Tip

So this is a very interesting matchup as Mertens is leading the H2H 3-0. There have been dominant victories in there but there was also their latest match which Mertens barely won. They never played on clay and generally, both are very good clay players.

Mertens is the better and more complete player and I think she will win this match. Peterson lacks matches as she only played two in recent months and that might come back to bite her. She could give trouble to her opponent but I don’t think she will have enough to win.

Tip: Mertens to win in straight sets: 10/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
