Mikael Ymer v Roman Safiullin Head to Head

This will be their first tour level meeting. Ymer beat Safiullin at a lower level hard court tournament in 2019.

Ymer On a Five-Match Losing Streak

Mikael Ymer had a brilliant start to the season, reaching the last eight in Adelaide-1 and then making it to the semifinals in Montpellier, but ever since suffering a straight sets defeat to Alexander Zverev in the final four stage in Montpellier, the 23-year-old Swede has only suffered losses.

Ymer lost in the first rounds in Rotterdam and Marseille to Lorenzo Musetti and Richard Gasquet respectively and then lost in the first qualifying round in Marrakech and Monte-Carlo to Mirza Basic and Kamil Majchrzak.

As a result of the string of losses, Ymer comes to Serbia with a 5-5 season record.

Ymer, who entered a maiden final at the Winston Salem Open last year, is also a decent player on clay. He has a tour-level record of 11-15 on the surface and had reached the third round of the French Open last year. He will be desperate to get back to winning ways at the Serbia Open.

Safiullin Comes Through Qualifiers

After fighting back from a set down to beat Australia’s Max Purcell in the first qualifying round, Roman Safiullin had to deal with another three-setter in the second qualifying round, before beating Norbert Gombos 6-2, 6-7, 6-0. Safiullin had won the first qualifier 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.

This has been a pretty good year for Safiullin, who won two singles matches in the Group phases of the ATP Cup and then reached the semifinals in Marseille by defeating then No. 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals to get his first ever top 10 win.

Safiullin eventually fell to Felix Auger Aliassime in the semifinals in Marseille and has since then only featured in the Challenger Tour, reaching semifinals in Pau, France.

He has a 1-1 career record on clay at the Tour level and 7-20 record on the Challenger Tour, but will be backing himself against Ymer after two promising results in the qualifying rounds.

Ymer v Safiullin Prediction and Tip

Safiullin has played a few more matches recently and won a lot more than Ymer, albeit at the lower level. He has also found his rhythm in the qualifiers and will be a difficult player to beat. Expect Ymer to put up a fight, but Safiullin to advance.

Tip: Safiullin to win: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
