Dellien Qualifies for Back-to-Back Tournaments

Hugo Dellien will be happy to have qualified for a second straight tournament. The clay court specialist had won both his qualifying round in Monte-Carlo and now has won both the qualifying rounds in Barcelona.

The 28-year-old Bolivian, who is 2-6 in the main draws this season, defeated Spain’s Daniel Rincon 6-3, 6-0 in the first qualifier and then knocked out Italy’s Gian Marco Moroni 7-5, 6-2 in the second qualifying round to enter the main draw in Barcelona for the second time in his career. In 2019, he came through the qualifiers only to lose the opener to Jan Lennard Struff.

Dellien had reached back-to-back Challenger finals in March, winning the title in Santiago and finishing runner-up in Concepcion. While he has done well in the qualifiers and the Challenger level, he has won just one match on the tour against Gonzalo Lama in the first round of the Chile Open and has won one Davis Cup singles match against Peru.

The World no. 89 will be desperate to get another tour-level win under his belt and has a great opportunity to do that on Tuesday against a lucky loser, who replaces Monte-Carlo runner-up Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the draw.

Guinard To Make Debut

Manuel Guinard will be making his ATP Tour debut in Barcelona after making it to the main draw as a lucky loser.

The 26-year-old Frenchman had beaten Ukraine’s Vitaliy Sachko 6-3, 6-3 in the first qualifying round but had been beaten by Spain’s Bernabe Zapata Miralles 4-6, 0-6 in the second qualifying round. He however got the lucky loser’s spot after Davidovich Fokina’s withdrawal.

A solid clay court player, the 152nd-ranked Guinard has played plenty of Challenger Tour matches this year and has a 15-7 season record. He is 10-3 on clay this year and also won his maiden Challenger title on the surface in Roseto degli Abruzzi in Italy.

Dellien v Guinard Prediction and Tip

Dellien’s experience at the top level should help him sail into the next round.
