Filip Krajinovic v Thiago Monteiro Head to Head

Having lost two successive matches and four of his past six matches, Krajinovic wasn’t expected to trouble David Goffin in the first round. Goffin, after all, had shown signs of the kind of form that had helped him reach world number seven at one stage with his title win in Marrakesh.
Krajinovic, however, was having none of that as he went on to shock the Belgian in a tight match but one that was over in two sets.
In a battle lasting an hour and 48 minutes, Krajinovic registered a 6-3, 7-6 (4) victory to seal his spot in the second round. Enduring four aces and three breaks of serves, Krajinovic edged past his opponent in the first set when he got himself a decisive break in the eighth game.
The Serb had a chance to serve out the match in the 12th game of the second but eventually won the tie-breaker which followed.
He now takes on a qualifier in the form of the 110th-ranked Brazilian.

Monteiro Runs Past Sousa
Despite being ranked 110th in the world, it’s not been such a bad season for Monteiro. The clay court specialist has already reached the quarterfinal in Adelaide earlier this season and then made it as far yet again in Santiago on clay as well.
Relegated to playing in Challenger competitions since then, Monteiro had had a 5-3 record on that circuit in April before getting a chance to feature in the qualifiers here in Belgrade.
A couple of wins there helped set him up for a first round match against Joao Sousa where he was a 1/2 favourite to win it. And that’s exactly how the match went with Monteiro routing Sousa 6-4, 6-3 to set up this second round encounter.
Monteiro will know he could need a lot more time against Krajinovic than the hour and 28 minutes he required to get past his previous opponent.
