 Austrian Qualifier Grabher

Grabher is usually found on the ITF tour, where she won a tournament in Portugal two months ago, helping her reach an all-time career high singles’ ranking.

It is still relatively rare for her to appear in a WTA tour main draw, but she earned her spot in Istanbul by beating both Anastasia Tikhonova and Kamilia Rakhimova, both in straight sets, in qualifying.

Fate then smiled on the Austrian by giving her a kind first round drawn against the Turkish wildcard Pemra Ozgen, the world number 320.

Grabher began strongly and raced into a five game lead, only for Ozgen to win five games in a row herself to level the match. The Austrian, though, then held serve, and broke the Turk once more to claim the first set.

The pair swapped breaks at the start of the second set, but then Grabher broke again and wrapped up the win with a further break.

Teichmann Given Tough First Round Test

Teichmann won two WTA titles on clay in 2019, and also was victorious in doubles at the Hamburg Open last year.

However, if she was expecting an easy opener against Greetje Minnen of Belgium, the world number 78, she was soon disabused of that notion on Tuesday evening.

The Swiss woman began well enough, two breaks enabling her to take a four game lead. Minnen got one of the breaks back, but it was enough for Teichmann to claim the first set.

Twice the pair swapped breaks in the second set, but when the Swiss woman had the chance to serve out for the match, she doubtless thought she would soon be back in the locker room.

Minnen, though, had not read the script. She broke back and went on to win the subsequent tie-break.

When Teichmann went a break down in the third, a minor upset seemed on the cards. But she immediately recovered the break, and then broke once more, and she was able to serve out from there.

Grabher v Teichmann Prediction and Tip

On paper Teichmann should win this easily, but, if she has learned anything from her match with Minnen, it is not to take anything for granted on the WTA tour.

Tip: Teichmann to win: 7/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
