Andrey Rublev v Dan Evans Head to Head

They played six times before with the score currently 3-3. The most recent one came in Dubai in 2022 with Rublev winning 6-4 7-5.

Rublev’s Round 1 Thriller

Andrey Rublev arrived in Madrid one week after winning the Belgrade Open against Djokovic in the final. It looked like Rublev would arrive in Madrid and continued those good plays however he ran into a very inspired Jack Draper who gave him everything he could handle.

Rublev was on the verge of crashing out early in Madrid similar to how he did last year against John Isner. He rallied and won the match which should be a very big confidence booster for him as the draw awarded him Dan Evans as an opponent for a sport in the quarterfinal.

Rublev is having a very good year with a 24-5 record and several trophies. He is 6-1 on clay and he will look to continue playing well and winning some more matches.

Evans Never Gives Up

Dan Evans is a nuisance to play against simply because he never gives up and simply because he can run for days. The British player is a top defensive player yet he can attack as well. Generally not on clay but on grass and hard courts he can be quite aggressive as well.

There are not many players who play a similar style to Evans as he has a lot of variety in his game and he plays rather smartly. He tries to outsmart his opponents and wear them down until the moment he can pounce. That is how he defeated Roberto Bautista Agut in the previous round and he will try that will Rublev.

Rublev is a player who can get agitated quite a bit and that’s how Evans won two times in 2020 over him. This year they played in Dubai and Rublev was able to win the match playing smarter than usual.

Rublev v Evans Prediction and Tip

This is a very interesting matchup that on paper might indicate that Rublev will have trouble. I don’t buy it simply because Evans is a very different player compared to Draper. The younger Brit has a more powerful serve and plays way more aggresively.

That gave Rublev a lot of trouble as the Russian is not used to being the passive player in rallies. He won’t be in this matchup and unless he gets completely flustered by Evans I don’t see him botching it. I expect a win in two sets and I believe he will get it.

He bested him in Dubai this year and he employed that blueprint and it worked. He just needs to be smart about it.

Tip: Rublev to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
