Mackenzie McDonald v Franco Agamenone Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 27-year old American, and the Italian, who is two years older.

McDonald will be keen to improve on his record in Paris – in four previous visits he has never been beyond the second round

Not that clay is his natural surface – the American is much happier on a hard court, as evidenced by the fact that his one senior career final came last year at the Cincinnati Masters, where he lost in three sets to Jannik Sinner.

In fact, this year he has only won one match on clay on the senior tour, and that was in Barcelona in the first round. More recently, he failed to qualify for both Madrid and Rome.

Grand Slam Debut for Agamenone

Although born in Argentina, Agamenone switched his international allegiance to Italy two years ago, shortly after serving a 10 month suspension for doping.

He has spent almost his entire career on the junior tours, winning a Challenger tournament on clay in Rome last month.

This is the first time he has ever made the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament, and he got there by winning three matches in the qualifying competition.

First, he beat the Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan Riveros in three sets. Then he defeated local man Alexandre Muller in two, and he completed his passage with a straight sets win over the Czech player, Zdenek Kolar.

McDonald v Agamenone Prediction and Tip

McDonald may struggle on clay but he is playing a man making his Grand Slam debut. The American should have too much experience for the adopted Italian.
