Nikoloz Basilashvili v Lukas Rosol Head to Head

There has been one main draw match and one other qualifier meeting between these two players.

Basilashvili had beaten Rosol in the first round of the 2016 Kitzbuhel Open before Rosol got the better of him at the Shanghai Masters qualifiers that season.

Basilashvili 10-20 for the Season

Basilashvili had a season-high ranking of 18th in the world but has fallen to 27th after a string of poor performances all season. He enters this year’s Wimbledon on the back of a 10-20 win-loss record which includes a defeat as recently as last week in the qualifiers of the Mallorca Open.

Playing against the 356th-ranked Mats Rosenkranz in that opening round of qualification, Basilashvili went down in two tie-breakers to fail in his bid to qualify for the Mallorca main draw.

Earlier he had lost both his second round matches – at Stuttgart and Halle – and that makes his presence at Wimbledon a very intriguing affair. Why? Because we know what he’s capable of when at full throttle.

Like last season, Basilashvili won two titles and against the run of play. Then again, he hasn’t done too well at Wimbledon.

His best showing here was a third round appearance in 2015 but since then Basilashvili has won a total of two matches at this competition.  The going could get tough.

Rosol Qualifies Without Dropping a Set

It was quickly turning out to be a phase of the season which Rosol wanted to forget in a hurry.

Since making it to the quarterfinal of the Prague Challenger late in April this year, Rosol had participated in more than a handful of tournaments at that very level and yet, won just one main draw match.

And having not had too much success on grass anyway, the former world number 26 wasn’t expected to do too much at the Wimbledon qualifiers having lost at the qualifying rounds of the Ilkley Challenger as well.

Instead, Rosol came through those three rounds without dropping a set, defeating the likes of Thiago Seyboth Wild, Christopher Eubanks and Renzo Olivo in straight sets to make it to the Wimbledon main draw for the first time in five years.

Tougher challenges lie ahead but for now, Rosol will be content in putting up a fight in this opener.

Basilashvili v Rosol Prediction and Tip

Basilashvili is a 3/10 favourite to win this and while we back him to clinch this, the Georgian player has shown the kind of inconsistencies which are difficult to overlook. A win for Basilashvili without a commitment on how easy or difficult it could get for him.
