Shuai Zhang v Caroline Garcia Head to Head

It is an advantage to Zhang with 2-1; she last beat Garcia in the Lyon Open semifinal this season and before that, in the Wimbledon 2019 first round. The Chinese veteran won both those matches in straight sets.

Zhang Steers Past Kostyuk

Shuai Zhang, yet to drop a set in London this week, has successfully dispatched Marta Kostyuk in the second round 7-6(8), 6-2. The 33-year-old needed an hour and 34 minutes to seal the deal with 25 winners and almost as many unforced errors.

Kostyuk put up an excellent fight but Zhang’s superior experience and calm-headedness got her through. In the first round, she started with a 6-4, 6-0 rout of Misaki Doi.

Now ranking World No. 41, Shuai enjoyed an exceptional grass campaign with a runner-up feat in Birmingham and a quarterfinal in Nottingham. She also made it to the doubles finals in these two events – going the distance in the latter while settling for the runner-up feat in the West Midlands.

Add to this mix her title run in Lyon and her elite-eight stint in Wimbledon 2019, it becomes evident why Zhang has got a chance to go deep this season.

Garcia Upsets Raducanu

It will be a day to remember for Caroline Garcia as she upset the reigning US Open champion, number 10 seed Emma Raducanu 6-3, 6-3 in under 90 minutes.

As the underdog up against a player who has the backing of the overwhelming crowd at the Centre Court, Garcia dug deep into her experience and prevailed with a 74% first-service win rate (compared to Emma’s 45%) and 25 winners.

It was also a good turnaround for the Frenchwoman in comparison to her first match this week, where she found herself in a three-set slogfest with Yuriko Miyazaki and won 4-6, 6-1, 7-6(4).

Like Zhang, Garcia also enjoyed a superb grass swing with a title run in Bad Homburg where she beat the likes of Alize Cornet and Bianca Andreescu in the final rounds. It was Caroline’s first singles title in three years.

Her other exploits include a couple of deep runs in Sydney and Lyon but apart from that, she fell in the early rounds in the rest of the tournaments.

Zhang v Garcia Prediction and Tip

This is going to be a great match – both players have similar momentum and form on grass. Zhang has the edge, however, due to her slightly superior experience and consistency.

That said, Garcia, as a former world number two, has the skill set needed to upset Zhang – she will need to continue believing in herself. The game swing either way quickly.
