Anhelina Kalinina v Katerina Siniakova Head to Head

They played once before and Kalinina won that 2019 match 2-1.

Kalinina Returns to Clay

Anhelina Kalinina had a superb experience on clay earlier in the year but a rather shaky one on grass. It was mostly something she was okay with as grass tennis is not her type of tennis despite some strong showings on the surface. Overall she concluded that part of the season with a 5-4 record overall.

It’s been a strong year for her an 18-13 record and 8-4 on clay. She looked rather well on the surface but she’s also very beatable. Especially if you can make her defend which she doesn’t do as well. Her groundstrokes are quite flat but she can overhit often.

Siniakova is a tricky proposition for her. A player who will make her work for every point and that’s a matchup that can get her beaten.

She will need to play sharp and smart tennis and if she can do that, she’ll be fine. She is the more talented player and generally plays better on clay.

Siniakova Hoping for Success

Katerina Siniakova had a pretty strong year last year but this year she was largely unable to replicate the same level. The effort was there but her body betrayed her on more than one occasion. She only managed 20 matches so far with an 8 -12 record.

Although primarily a doubles specialist, she can play strong singles tennis, especially on clay. She is an attacking player that doesn’t shy away from hitting the ball hard and that can work well on clay. She also moves rather well on the surface thanks to her doubles background.

Even so, this is a very tough matchup. She faces a player that is better than her and healthier. When you add to that that she lost all four singles matches she played lately it doesn’t look so good.

There are some obvious confidence issues with her and she needs a couple of good wins to get it back but I’m unsure she will be able to get it here against Kalinina.

Kalinina v Siniakova Prediction and Tip

So Kalinina is obviously the better player and has had the better year. There are no injury concerns with her and she generally plays a pretty strong clay game. Overall I think she’s more stable from the baseline which is the reason I will back her.

Siniakova could beat her but I don’t think she can keep up a very high level for the entire match and that’s what it takes to beat Kalinina on clay.
