Shuai Zhang v Petra Martic Head to Head
Martic leads the H2H 2-0, winning both times on outdoor hard. They once played in 2015 while in 2019 Martic won in the Miami Masters.

Shuai Zhang is currently ranked 37 and is defending some significant points against an opponent she has never beaten in two attempts.
She reached the semifinal in Palermo last year where she lost to eventual champion and number one seed Danielle Collins.
Zhang has had a good season so far. She won the WTA Lyon (Indoor) title earlier this year and recently reached the final in WTA Birmingham prior to Wimbledon.
The Chinese veteran has slightly struggled on clay this year with a 3-7 record. She recently played in Budapest and lost to eventual finalist Aleksandra Krunic in the second round. She only won one game in the entire match.
Zhang has been able maintain a good form of results in the singles events despite becoming a doubles specialist. She is currently ranked the world number 2 in the doubles.
Martic Hoping to Make it Two Good Weeks in a Row
Petra Martic had been having a torrid time in the tour in the last two years. Once upon a time, she was almost on the edge of breaking into the top 10, she started the year fearing she will slip out of the top 100.
The veteran has managed to grind through many matches this year and has a 24-14 record on all surfaces. She is currently in the final of WTA Lausanne and will face Olga Danilovic in the final.
She had reached the quarterfinal of the Indian Wells masters earlier this year and the round of 16 in the Rome Masters as a qualifier. She is 12-4 on clay this year and her serve has been at a very high level all week.
Martic had reached the semifinal in the 2020 edition of Palermo. That was also her last appearance here and will be happy to return here after having such a good week in Switzerland.
Zhang v Martic Prediction and Tip
Zhang is in good form and has made some good runs this year, however she has struggled on clay whereas Martic is already in a final and has found success in Palermo the last time she played. She should be the clear favourite here.
