Overall, it hasn’t been the kind of season that Tiafoe would have liked following on from how things had gone for him last year.
The American player did make it to the final of the Estoril Open earlier in 2022 but coming into Wimbledon, he had a rather underwhelming win-loss record of 12 wins to 13 defeats all year.
And on hard court surfaces, this is down to 4-5 which should give Tiafoe something to ponder coming into Atlanta Open.
His last appearance, however, should give Tiafoe some confidence. He had made it through to the fourth round at Wimbledon and it took David Goffin’s good form and five sets to dislodge him from that competition.
Tiafoe had a first round bye here after the withdrawal of Maxime Cressy and will hope he can get back into some rhythm while headed into the season’s final Grand Slam in New York.

Daniel in Shock Win over Korda
Not much was expected out of Daniel coming into his opening round encounter against Sebastian Korda with the Japanese player having earlier needed qualifiers to make it through to the main draw.
And when Daniel went a set down, capitulating easily to lose his serve on three occasions, the writing seemed to be on the wall.
How Daniel managed to overturn that and send Korda packing out of the tournament can easily be termed as the surprise of the first round.
In the end, the world number 101 won 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 to carve out a place in the second round against Tiafoe, with the match lasting an hour and 47 minutes.
Daniel’s fighting spirit should keep him interested in this encounter against the world number 29 given that his opponent hasn’t had too much match-time in recent times.

Tiafoe might be 3/5 to win this but it won’t be easy and there is every possibility of Daniel causing a bit of a commotion on court. Expecting him to take this to a third.
