Brandon Nakashima v John Millman Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players and that came earlier this year in Dallas.

Nakashima had won that first round match but not before Millman had stretched him in both sets.

Nakashima Looking to Build on Last Year’s Final

Nakashima was the runner-up at this competition last season and will hope to build on that as he faces his second Aussie opponent in a row.

In the first round, Nakashima had defeated Jordan Thompson but not before the Australian player had managed to push him to the brink. In a match lasting two hours and 14 minutes, Nakashima was a 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-3 winner which saw him ward off 16 aces from the Thompson racquet.

Interestingly, both players earned just one break of serve in the entire match, with Nakashima getting a decisive one in the sixth game of the final set.

The difference between the two players came in the first set tie-breaker where Nakashima got himself successive mini-breaks to take a 6-5 lead and then won the next point on his own serve to clinch the set.

Can he make it two in two now?

Millman Sends Another Aussie Packing

Much like Nakashima, Millman also needed three sets including a first set tie-breaker to win his opener and it also came against an Australian player.

It was Alexei Popyrin who stretched Millman in the opener before the world number 81 triumphed 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-3 to reach round two.

This win followed a string of underwhelming performances from Millman over the last 12 or so months which have ensured a plummet in his world ranking. Ranked 38th in the world at one point last season, Millman is now hanging on precariously in the top 100, having earlier fallen to 94th in January.

A first round win here should give him some respite but Millman knows he needs to do a lot better than register the odd, scrappy win.

Nakashima v Millman Prediction and Tip

Nakashima might have been stretched by Thompson but given Millman’s poor form we do not see him struggle again. Going for a straight-set win for Nakashima in this one.

Tip: Nakashima to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
