It has been a tough year for Henri Laaksonen. He is 5-11 in the main draws on the tour this season and hasn’t been able to deliver at the lower level either.
The 30-year-old’s best at any level this season was a run to the semifinals at the Braunschweig Challenger. Overall, he is 13-24 from all levels this season and 3-6 on hard courts. Last year he had an overall record of 46-25.
It’s a clear indication of how Laaksonen has struggled throughout this season. And there may be more losses coming his way as the tour returns to hard courts. Laaksonen has played most of his matches on clay, and thus has a career record of 202-163 on the surface. In contrast he is 99-86 on hard courts and that includes all the professional matches played in his career.
On the tour, Laaksonen has a touch better record on hard courts than on clay, winning 43.3% matches on the former and 41.5% on the latter.

Purcell Comes Through Qualifiers
Max Purcell made it to the main draw with back to back straight set wins in the qualifying rounds.
The Aussie, who is 1-4 in the main draws this year, defeated Emilio Bravo 6-2, 6-1 and Peđa Krstin 6-4, 6-1 in the first and second rounds respectively.
Purcell, who won the Wimbledon doubles along with Matthew Ebden and finished runner-up at the Australian Open with the same partner, is yet to find his feet in singles. His best in singles this year were quarterfinal appearances in Bangalore, Surbiton and Indianapolis Challengers.
In his last tournament in Indianapolis, he defeated Liam Broady and Aidan McHugh but fell to Ben Shelton in the quarters.
The world No. 234 is also making his debut in Los Cabos. Can he make an impact in the singles format?
