Veronika Kudermetova will be in action for the first time since withdrawing from the Bad Homburg Open with an injury.
In her last three tournaments, the Russian was a quarterfinalist at the French Open, a semifinalist in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and a quarterfinalist in Berlin.
Seeded No. 9 in the tournament, the World No. 19 has featured in three finals this year, but has not been able to add to the only title she won at the Charleston Open last year.
Of the three finals this year, Kudermetova went down to Simona Halep at the Melbourne Summer Set, Jelena Ostapenko in Dubai and Anastasia Potapova in Istanbul.
The 25-year-old also featured in the last eight of the Indian Wells Open this year. Overall, Kudermetova is 25-13 this season and 13-6 on hard court.
She will be looking to make a winning return.

Giorgi Has been Inconsistent in 2022
Following a run to the third round at the Australian Open, Camila Giorgi struggled to win matches before getting into a some sort of rhythm at the French Open, reaching the fourth round of the clay court major.
Giorgi soon followed it up with a quarterfinal appearance in Birmingham and a semifinal appearance in Eastbourne, before falling in the opening round at Wimbledon.
This will be Giorgi’s first tournament since the grass court major.
A winner of three titles from nine finals, Giorgi has two hard court titles, which includes the Canadian Open title she won last year.
Following an inconsistent season, the 30-year-old Italian will be desperate to improve her 2-2 record on hard courts this season.

Both players are coming back after a long break, so both will be looking to get into a rhythm quickly. Kudermetova has been in sublime form this season and she should win the opener against Giorgi.
