Cressy Has Been Solid This Season

Maxime Cressy is enjoying a breakthrough season and there could be a lot in store for the 25-year-old American who comes to Montreal with a 20-17 season record behind him.

This record includes his maiden ATP title, which he claimed in Newport, a couple of weeks ago. The season also saw Cressy finish runner-up in two other finals in Melbourne and Eastbourne, a remarkable achievement for a player, who had barely won seven matches on the tour before this season.

Most recently, Cressy participated in the Washington Open. He scored a come-from-behind win over Jack Sock in the opening round but fell to Andrey Rublev in Round 2. The World no. 32 has a 10-7 season record on hard courts.

His most notable performances on the surface this year include a run from qualifiers to final in Melbourne, quarterfinal finish in Sydney and a fourth round appearance at the Australian Open.  Cressy will be looking to build on that on his Montreal debut.

Karatsev Plagued By Inconsistency

World no. 36 Aslan Karatsev has seen a lot of ups and downs this season. The Russian began the year by winning his third ATP title, in Sydney, but lost form soon after his triumphant start.

The 2021 Australian Open semifinalist fell in the third round of the opening major this year and then went 4-15 in the next 15 tournaments.

He finally found some form in Bastad and Hamburg, reaching the quarterfinals in back-to-back weeks, but in both the tournaments it was Francesco Cerundolo who stopped him from reaching the semifinals.

Since his Hamburg exit, Karatsev lost in the opening rounds in Kitzbuhel and Washington. Thus he brings a 15-19 season record into the tournament, where he is 0-1 from his debut last year.

Given his form, Karatsev will have a difficult start at the Canadian Open.

Cressy v Karatsev Prediction and Tip
