Albert Ramos is truly a proper veteran as the Spaniard knows all the tricks and still wins matchups that are more 50-50 than anything else. In round one of the event, he faced a tricky counter-pouncer and was able to beat him in two solid sets 6-4 6-4.
Ramos has been playing solid tennis over the past few weeks as wins over Diego Schwartzman in Montreal prove. He’s never been the best hard-court player but he’s certainly good enough to still beat some of the better players on the tour.
The year overall is a good one for him with a 25-23 record and a trophy. He’s 3-4 on hard courts but playing rather well. Cincinnati showed a certain drop in his level compared to Montreal but he rediscovered it against Millman. Can he keep it up?

Mannarino Eyeing Quarterfinal
Adrian Mannarino is eyeing a quarterfinal here after beating a couple of solid players. Wins over Christopher O’Connel and Emil Ruusuvuori were pretty good and it showed Mannarino finally find some rhythm after some shaky performances in the past couple of weeks.
The French player holds a 24-25 record this year and he’s certainly capable of playing better than that. Some of that will improve when he gets indoors but Winston-Salem looks like a good sport for him and a chance for the quarterfinal will certainly be a huge motivation.
He’s beaten Ramos a couple of times over the years and most of his came on hard courts. He dropped clay court matches which was expected so he will certainly fancy a win here.
