Tim van Rijthoven v Zhizhen Zhang Head to Head

Tim van Rijthoven had a superb run at Wimbledon but the Dutch player was unable to reap any benefits from it. luckily for him, he was able to get a wild card entry to try a similar thing in New York.
The Lack of Points from Wimbledon have him ranked way outside of the top 100 despite earning to be inside. It’s an annoying thing for him and it’s what forced him to play challengers leading up to this grand slam instead of stronger events.
He didn’t do that well winning some matches but for the most part, it lucked much worse than his run on grass. Van Rijthoven has a powerful serve so he will probably do better in New York but it remains to be seen where his confidence is at the moment.
His Wimbledon run came after winning his first trophy so those two results were tied to each other. The score this year is impressive with 31-16 but it’s only 2-3 on hard courts.

Qualifying Success for Zhang
Zhizhen Zhang had some success in the qualifiers working his way into the main draw. All his wins were fairly comfortable as he didn’t drop a single set but he didn’t face the best of the best either.
The Chinese player is enjoying a breakout season and a good run here could push him closer to the top 100. He’s getting there thanks to his 41-21 record on the year. Most of those wins came on clay where he feels most comfortable as of now but 7-3 on hard indicates he can do well on that court as well.
He mostly played challengers this year and lacks any proper ATP Tour experience but don’t underestimate him. He got a similarly ranked player who’s not playing that well right now so this is a great chance for him.
If he can continue playing well and serve well he can certainly beat van Rijthoven. If he does he’ll have more confidence and a good draw could see him win a couple of matches.
van Rijthoven v Zhang Prediction and Tip
I think this will be a fairly competitive match between similar players. Level-wise they are near identical but the Chinese is playing better at the moment.
I think that matters as I don’t think van Rijthoven will be able to rely too much on his serve. The Dutch player is slightly favoured but I pick Zhang for the upset.
