Tommy Paul v Bernabe Zapata Miralles Head to Head

Paul and Zapata Miralles have not played at the top level before this, although they played in Futures cirucit back in 2015. The American won that match in three sets on clay.

Paul In Wide Quarter

Tommy Paul is one of the players to look out for at this year’s US Open. The American has played superbly throughout the year, making the latter stages at the biggest ATP events.

He arrives in New York fresh off his first quarterfinal run at Masters 1000 event in Canada where he defeated Spanish teenage sensation Carlos Alcaraz and former US Open winner Marin Cilic in Montreal.

That run certainly aided Paul’s cause to get into the Grand Slam seeding reckoning at his home slam. The 25-year-old will be seeded for the first time in a Major and should be a massive favorite to get his first main draw win at Flushing Meadows.

With over 150 match wins on hard courts on the pro tour, it defies logic Paul has not managed to get a main draw win in four previous tries at the US Open. But on the back of a career-best season, he should get the monkey off his back.

Paul is also in a very wide quarter of the draw which could pit him against Casper Ruud in the third round and potentially Taylor Fritz in the Round of 16.

Zapata Miralles Wins First Title of 2022

Bernabe Zapata Miralles lifted his first title of the season at the Meerbusch Challenger, just a few weeks before he makes his second appearance at the US Open.

Zapata Miralles, like Paul, has vaulted in the ATP rankings, breaking the top 100 for the first time and looking to become a mainstay in the long term.

The Spaniard is naturally a clay-court specialist having garnered most of his wins and trophies on that surface. At this year’s French Open, he made a breakthrough run to the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time, scoring eye-catching wins over Taylor Fritz and John Isner.

And the fact that produced that tremendous run as a qualifier made the achievement even more special. His record on outdoor hard courts doesn’t make for good reading, having won once (defeated Denis Novak in Pune) all year.

Paul v Zapata Miralles Prediction and Tip

Paul should be a solid favorite to advance. He is the superior player on this surface and his confidence is through the roof right now.
