World No. 58 (former #20) Daria Saville has had an eventful few weeks of late in the North American swing and is as ready as one can be for the final Grand Slam of the season.
Competing in WTA Granby, she made it all the way to the final before losing to Daria Kasatkina. Nonetheless, it was Saville’s fifth singles final of her career – and the first one since October 2017.
A few weeks before, she also competed in the semifinal in Washington after beating the likes of Mirjam Bjorklund, Jessica Pegula, and Rebecca Marino.
Daria started the season outside the top 400 after struggling with injuries and the subsequent recovery over the last couple of years. She has been on a superb resurgent path and brought herself back into the fray after reaching the round of 16 in Indian Wells (as a qualifier) and later reaching the quarterfinal in Miami.

Ruse, Completely Out of Form
World No. 101 Elena-Gabriela Ruse is set to compete in the US Open after a hiatus of over a month. Her last tournament was the Hamburg European Open, where she lost in the opener to Bernarda Pera.
Having skipped the entirety of the US Open swing, the 24-year-old Romanian is clearly low on form and momentum.
In fact, she has been in a rut for quite some time as she lost her first-round fixtures in Eastbourne, Wimbledon, and Budapest.
Barring a couple of round-of-16 runs in Sydney and Dubai (both as a qualifier), 2022 season hasn’t been a kind one for the Elena-Gabriela; her tally now stands at 13-16.
