Shelby Rogers v Viktória Kužmová Head to Head
While they have never faced off at the highest level, Rogers did play Kuzmova once in the Billie Jean King Cup in 2020. Kuzmova had won that encounter in straight sets.

For a long time during her first round encounter against Arantxa Rus, Rogers looked like she was on the back-foot and struggling to live up to her favourites billing.
It was during the later part of the second set that Rogers managed to turn things around and later tighten the screws on her opponent to enter round two. In the end, Rogers won 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to make it to the second round in a match lasting two hours and 14 minutes.
One break of serve is all it needed for Rus to win the opening set, and while Rogers struggled in the second set as well, she managed to get past her opponent’s serve when it mattered the most – in the eighth game.
Rogers broke early in the deciding set as well, and for the third time in a row, that turned out to be the only break of the set which carried the American through to her 12th hard court victory of the season to go with her eight defeats.

Kužmová Shocks Sorribes Tormo
Kuzmova had entered her first round match at this year’s US Open as a qualifier, having crushed all three of her opponents to make it to the main draw. Not surprisingly, the 183rd-ranked Kuzmova was 5/2 going up against Sara Sorribes Tormo in her first round match.
That she barely broke into a sweat while dispatching Sorribes Tormo 6-3, 6-4 in their opener speaks volumes about the kind of confidence Kuzmova carried into the encounter.
That, from a player who had never made it past round one at the US Open.
She now has a tough opponent in the form of Rogers in front of her but can she be discounted given her performances in this tournament so far?
