Petra Kvitova v Jessica Pegula Head to Head
It is 2-0 to Kvitova; they last met in the 2021 WTA Doha semifinal, where Petra won in straight sets. They had also met in the US Open two years ago where Pegula fell in straight sets against the Czech.

In round three, Petra Kvitova found herself in a marathon affair with the former world number one Garbine Muguruza. The match went on for two hours and 41 minutes and saw the number 21 seed win 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(10) – saving an incredible two match points in the deciding sets.
In the post-match conference, Kvitova mentioned that she was inspired by Serena Williams’ timeless ability to save match points and win from impossible situations in that third-round slogfest.
She has now got a day to recover before she steps out again to take on the home favourite Pegula.
For what it is worth, the 32-year-old has some momentum behind her. Most recently, she was the runner-up in Cincinnati, while in June, she won the Eastbourne International to win her first singles title in over a year.
At the same time, Kvitova (current World No. 21) hasn’t had the most consistent season, with plenty of early losses highlighting her spell. She is now 25-16.

Pegula Survives Yuan Test
Number eight seed Jessica Pegula also found herself in a three-setter with the Chinese qualifier Yue Yuan. The American was tested, but she got through with 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-0. In the match, she hit 35 winners and won an impressive 90% of the points behind the first serve.
She had swatted away Viktorija Golubic and Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the preceding rounds in straight sets.
The current #8 in the singles ranking has improved her tally to 34-16. Jessica is armed with a semifinal result in Toronto and a quarterfinal showing in Cincinnati. The 28-year-old was also a quarterfinalist in the Australian Open and French Open, and the runner-up in Madrid.
Pegula has also got four doubles titles to her name in 2022 – the recent ones being the Citi Open and Canadian Open.
With plenty of momentum and experience, she is well poised to put up a solid fight with Kvitova.
