Karolina Pliskova is into her fifth US Open quarterfinal after a brilliant three-hour marathon win over Victoria Azarenka in the round of 16.

Right before her current R16 appearance in New York, Pliskova was a semifinalist in the Rogers Cup, where she upset the likes of Krejcikova, Amanda Anisimova, Maria Sakkari, and Qinwen Zheng. That result, however, was followed by a second-round defeat to Elise Merteisn in Cinci.
With the current results in New York, Karolina is now 19-14 – which is statistically her worst season yet. However, she can be forgiven due to her injury issues, but seeing her recent form seems to be a thing of the past.

Sabalenka Dismisses Collins
Aryna Sabalenka is just one win away from reaching her second consecutive US Open semifinal.
The one comes on the back of a clinical, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Danielle Collins in the round of 16. This was also her second three-setter of the 2022 US Open, with the other coming against Kaia Kanepi – where she had to dig deep to avoid a big upset.
The number six seed is now 28-17 for the year, and like Pliskova, this is also among her worst-performing season in recent years.
Nonetheless, Sabalenka is ranked World No. 6, has close to a million dollars in prize money and two singles runner-up trophies from Stuttgart and Den Bosch.
It hasn’t been an entirely bad year for Aryna. If anything, she has recovered well of late. Most recently, she competed in the semifinal in Cincinnati and the quarterfinal in San Jose.
Compared to Pliskova, the 24-year-old lacks experience and pedigree – but makes up for it with playing style and sheer grit. Expect a close encounter once again.
