Riske-Amritraj in a Decent Form

Number seven seed Alison Riske-Amritraj has arrived in Tokyo for the Toray Pan Pacific Open 2022 with a tally of 24-18 and two singles finals – Adelaide International and Nottingham Open.

She is the current World No. 23 and, on the whole, has had a pretty good year. The 32-year-old American has a fair bit of momentum to her game, with consecutive round of 16 appearances in the US Open, Cincinnati Open, and Canadian Open.

In these tournaments, Alison beat a handful of big names, notably Petra Kvitova and Jelena Ostapenko. She had also reached the same stage in the Miami Open earlier in the season.

As for her track record in Tokyo, Riske-Amritraj was a quarterfinalist in 2018 when she beat Eugenie Bouchard and Garbine Muguruza.

Liu, in a Rut

22-year-old Claire Liu has had a decent year by her standards. She is currently #81, having peaked at the #74 spot in June.

Her tally is 24-19, although she is now on a four-match losing streak. Liu lost her opening-round bouts in the Vancouver Challenger, US Open, and most recently, Slovenia Open.

Claire’s high notes of the season came in May-June when she won the Challenger titles in Clarins Open singles and Veneto Open doubles, and reached her maiden WTA final in Morocco. It is worth noting that her hard-court record is not impressive.

Over the course of the year, Liu has also beaten a handful of prominent players like Kaia Kanepi, Beatriz Haddad Maia, Shuai Zhang, Mayar Sherif, and Nuria Parrizas Diaz. She is equipped to put up a fight with Riske-Amritraj but will need to bring her A-game forward.

Riske-Amritraj v Liu Prediction and Tip

Riske-Amritraj has a definite advantage here, given her experience and superior trophy collection. Liu may put up a fight, but that may not be enough at the end.
