23-year-old Jule Niemeier continues to build on her breakthrough season by working hard and strong. She started the 2022 Emilia-Romagna Open as a qualifier and beat Francesca Pace and Oksana Selekhmetova in straight sets to reach the main draw.
These two wins have taken her tally to an impressive 37-19.
Niemeier is the current World No. 72 – which is another commendable feat given that at the start of the year, she was outside the top 120.
Her most prominent results include the quarterfinal stint in Wimbledon – where she beat Anett Kontaveit en route – and later, a fourth-round showing in the US Open – beating Sofia Kenin, Yulia Putintseva, and Qinwen Zheng.
Jule also won a couple of titles in the Makarska Challenger and ITF Zagreb. With this kind of form and momentum, she is certainly poised for a good run in Parma.

Paolini Seeking Solace at Home
It hasn’t been a kind season for the World No. 79 Jasmine Paolini, who got a direct entry to the main draw. Her record is 19-22 with no prominent silverware to her name.
What has worked in her favour, however, is her proclivity to perform on clay courts. Most of her victories have come on this surface – including the consecutive semifinals in Palermo and Warsaw, and a quarterfinal stint in the Contrexeville Challenger.
Paolini last competed in the Budapest Challenger where she lost to Viktoriya Tomova in the opener. Before that, she fell to Katerina Siniakova in the Slovenia Open quarterfinal.
Playing at home on familiar turf, Paolini will look to turnaround her recent run. However, she will need to be careful.
