World No. 22 Victoria Azarenka is set to compete in Ostrava after a brief hiatus from the tour.
Her last tournament was the US Open, where she made it to the fourth round, ultimately losing to Karolina Pliskova in three sets.
The 33-year-old Belarusian has had a whirlwind year as she took brief pauses to focus on her mental health and find her joy in tennis. She has also been a staunch advocate for the same.
The first-such break came right after the Miami Open when she abruptly walked off the court after trailing to Linda Fruhvirtova in round three. Her next tournament was in Madrid, where she reached the third round – and kept the same tempo across the Rome and Paris events too.
It was a similar story for Azarenka in the North American swing too. Overall, the five-time Grand Slam finalist (three runner-ups, two titles) is 20-11 this year.

Alexandrova, in a Superb Form
Ekaterina Alexandrova is the current World No. 21 – a career-best ranking for her.
Cruising high on confidence and momentum, she is now ready to take on the competitive field in Ostrava. She has got a fair bit of wind in her sails – having won the Korea Open most recently by beating Jelena Osaptenko in the final.
It was her second title of the season – the other being the Rosmalen Championships, where she had upset Veronika Kudermetova and Aryna Sabalenka on her road to the trophy.
Although Alexandrova couldn’t win more than one match in any of the four tournaments between the two titles, she remains a formidable opponent. Her record right now is 32-16 – which also includes her semifinal result in Madrid (as a qualifier) and Charleston.
