Maria Sakkari v Alycia Parks Head to Head

Maria Sakkari loves playing in Ostrava and a 6-2 tournament record is a testament to that. She will be making her third appearance this year.
The World no. 7 was a semifinalist in 2020 and made it to the final last year by beating Iga Swiatek in the final four stage but she could not lift the trophy, after going down to Anett Kontaveit in straight sets.
The fourth seed Greek will be eager to go deep once again this year and she even has form on her side. Sakkari comes into the tournament as Parma runner-up. She had won four matches to enter her sixth WTA final but she could not add to the solitary title that she won in Rabat in 2019. The 27-year-old lost to Mayar Sherif in the final of the clay court tournament.
That was her third final of the season, following her runner-up finishes in St. Petersburg and Indian Wells (her maiden WTA 1000 final).
Sakkari brings a 33-19 season record into the tournament and she is 18-10 on hard courts. There are high expectations from the Greek and it will be interesting to see if she can continue to thrive in Ostrava.

Parks Stuns Pliskova
Qualifier Alycia Parks shocked World no. 19 Karolina Pliskova in the opening round of the Ostrava Open.
The World no. 144 put up stunning performance in the opening round, as she bagelled the Czech player. In the second set, Pliskova broke first but lost four games in a row to find herself 3-5 down. She didn’t allow the American to serve out the set and fought back to stay alive, but Parks ran away with the match in the tiebreak.
This was Parks’ second main draw win on the tour this year. She is now 2-2 at the tour level. She had entered the main draw with straight sets qualifying round wins over Oksana Selekhmeteva and Anna-Lena Friedsam.
The 21-year-old right-hander will be aiming to pull off another upset on Thursday and reach a first WTA quarterfinal. She has reached two ITF finals this year, but finished runner-up in both.

Form and experience both favour Sakkari in this contest. Expect the Greek to reach an eighth quarterfinal this season.
