Tommy Paul v Leo Borg Head to Head

Tommy Paul won his only trophy in Stockholm last year after putting together a surprise run and beating several notable players. It all started for him with a victory over Leo Borg and now he will play him again in the first round. Quite the coincidence.
Last year’s match was rather straightforward for the American who won in two sets and I suspect this year might be the same. Borg improved quite a bit from last year but so did Paul and he looked rather solid in Gijon last week. Losing to Andrey Rublev in a quarter-final is nothing to be ashamed of.
Paul plays his best tennis on hard courts but he is also quite streaky. A lot will come down to how he serves and how well he’s hitting the ball. If both things are on point he’ll win this easily and probably even easier than last year.

Borg Tries Once More
Leo Borg is not as good at tennis as his father was as he’s yet to create any kind of breakthrough and he’s 19. There is still time but it’s certain that he probably won’t win as many grand slams as his father did. Nonetheless, this year has been overall positive for him with a 32-24 record.
He went 1-13 last year just so you have an idea that it is truly a huge improvement. He has not played a single match indoors this year as he tends to focus on clay mostly and that’s pretty important. It takes time to adjust to these conditions.
He faced Paul last year in the same Arena and he did okay and I expect the same once more. He’ll do okay but he won’t do enough to win. There is just too much of a skill difference at the moment for Borg to do anything of note in this clash.

Paul will win this comfortably in two sets. Unfortunately the odd is rather low so maybe 17,5 under seems like some good value.
