Tommy Paul v Mikael Ymer Head to Head

They met once at the tour level and twice at the lower level and Paul has emerged victorious on all three occasions.

Paul’s tour-level victory came in Moscow last year.

Paul Bounces Back to Beat Borg

Defending champion Tommy Paul escaped a first-round elimination as he rebounded after losing the first set to beat World no. 577 Leo Borg.

Broken in the first game of the match, the American had bounced back to build a 3-5 lead, but he lost the last four games in a row to concede the first set to the Swedish wildcard.

He had a tough time in the second set as well, with Borg serving well and keeping the set on serve over the first nine games. But, Paul capitalised on a third breaking opportunity in the set in the 10th game to tie the match at one-set all.

Back in the contest, the eighth seed dominated the third set and broke the 19-year-old twice to clinch the match 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.

The win improved the 25-year-old to 36-24 this season. A quarterfinalist in Gijon last week, Paul is aiming to reach the last eight stage for a 10th time this season.

He has made it past the quarters just once though and that was in Delray Beach, where he fell in the semifinals.

Ymer Rallies Past Halys

Like Paul, Mikael Ymer too had to come from behind to register a win in the first round of the Stockholm Open.

The World no. 79 needed two hours and 22 minutes to hold off France’s Quentin Halys 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in the opening round.

The Swede converted 5 of 16 break points in the match and saved 2 of 5. He made just 12 unforced errors 20 fewer than the Frenchman and won a total of 108 points in the match.

As a result of the win, Ymer improved to 21-17 for the season. He is coming off a splendid run in Florence, where he reached the semifinals. It was the third time this year that the 24-year-old had reached that stage. He had also made it to the final four in Montpellier and Washington.

A win on Thursday will take Ymer into his sixth quarterfinal of the year.

Paul v Ymer Prediction and Tip

Both have had tough starts, but both found a way to win. This is expected to be a close battle. Paul has shown better consistency this season, but Ymer is the local boy and has been in good form since last week. So it will be a close contest with the defending champion holding slight edge going into the match.

Tip: Paul to win: 4/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
