Ruusuvuori Gets Revenge Against Sousa

Emil Ruusuvuori got his Maharashtra Open final revenge against Joao Sousa as the Finn knocked out the Portuguese player in the first round of the Stockholm Open.

Ruusuvuori, who had reached his maiden final in Pune earlier this year was stopped from winning the title by Sousa in a three-set contest. He, however, got his revenge on Tuesday, defeating the world no. 67, 6-3, 6-2.

Ruusuvuori edged out Sousa in a hard-fought first set thanks to a solitary break in the fourth game. The Finnn saved 4 of 4 break points that he faced and converted 1o of 7 to take a one-set lead. In the second set Ruusuvuori broke early, but Sousa drew level at 2-2. However, it was the former who ran away with the match by winning the last four games of the set and clinching the match 6-3, 6-2.

The 23-year-old world no. 52 has not reached a quarterfinal since reaching the last eight in Queen’s. That’s 12 tournaments without going past the round of 16. Earlier he had reached the quarters four times. While the Pune Open was his best showing, he also reached the semifinals in Melbourne and lost in the quarters in Munich and Queen’s. Can he reach his fifth quarterfinal of the season?

Lehecka Stuns Dimitrov

World no. 77 Jiri Lehecka pulled off a big win, defeating sixth seed and world no. 32 Grigor Dimitrov in the first round on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old Czech got the only break of the first set, but he was outplayed in the second by the Bulgarian. Lehecka, however, raised his level in the third set. He got an early break and led 4-1, but Dimitrov got the break back to send the set back on serve. The match was eventually decided in the final set tiebreak.

Dimitrov led 0-3 in the tiebreak but the Czech rebounded and won the last five points in a row to score a 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5) victory.

This was Lehecka’s 10th tour-level win of the season. He is 39-28 overall and has featured in two Challenger finals, winning in Liberec and finishing runner-up in Mauthausen, Austria.

He is seeking a third quarterfinal spot this season. He was a semifinalist in Rotterdam and fell in the last eight in Kitzbuhel.

Ruusuvuori v Lehecka Prediction and Tip

Ruusuvuori is the more experienced player at this level and tends to do well on hard courts. He will be the favourite to advance from this contest.
