Grigor Dimitrov v Fabio Fognini Head to Head

It’s a rivalry that dates back to 2013 with Dimitrov leading 4-2. However, they last met in Stockholm in 2013 with the Bulgarian wining the contest.

Dimitrov also won their only previous meeting at the Paris Masters in 2013.

Dimitrov Holds Off Van de Zandschulp

Grigor Dimitrov made a strong start at the Paris Masters, edging out the Netherlands’ Botic van de Zandschulp in straight sets on Tuesday to reach the second round of the tournament.

The Bulgarian, who was a semifinalist in Paris in 2017, needed an hour and 56 minutes to dispatch the Dutch player 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5).

Both the sets saw Van de Zandschulp get the first break, but the Bulgarian got the break back on both the occasions, eventually wining the sets in tiebreaks.

An eight-time champion on the tour, Dimitrov is coming off a solid display in Vienna last week. He defeated Andrey Rublev and Marcos Giron en route the semifinals, but was prevented from reaching his first final since 2018 by Daniil Medvedev.

Twice before in 2022, he came close to reaching a 16th final but was stopped in the semifinals in Monte-Carlo and Melbourne.

The former no. 3, who moved up four places to no. 28 this week, is looking good at the moment and will be hoping to continue the winning momentum in the second round.

Fognini Fends Off Fils

Lucky loser Fabio Fognini got a quick revenge over world no. 308 Arthur Fils, edging past the French qualifier 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (4-7), 6-2  in two hours and 37 minutes.

Fognini, who was also in the qualifiers, lost the second qualifying round to Fils 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, as a result of which the Frenchman entered the main draw as a qualifier, while Fognini made it to the main tournament as a lucky loser.

Fognini, however, spoiled the 18-year-old’s tour-level debut, beating the local player in three sets. Fognini saved a set point on his serve in the 12th game of the first set, before winning the ensuing tiebreak.

In the second set, the Italian came back from a break down twice but was outplayed in the tiebreak as Fils levelled the match. The 35-year-old then broke twice in the final set to move into the next round.

Fognini, who is playing in the Paris Masters for the 10th time, has reached the third round just once. Can he make it the second time this year?

Dimitrov v Fognini Prediction and Tip

Dimitrov is the player in better form right now. He is coming off a solid run in Vienna and also defeated a strong player in the opening round. In contrast, Fognini, who is playing as a lucky loser, has struggled recently and will find it difficult to close the gap on the Bulgarian.

Tip: Dimitrov to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
