Tiafoe Downs Draper

The in-form Frances Tiafoe marched into the third round of the Paris Masters with a second consecutive straight sets win.

After easing past Lorenzo Sonego in the opening round, he knocked out one of the most impressive youngsters of the year Jack Draper in the second round on Wednesday.

While Tiafoe did not face a break point in the first round against the Italian, he was not broken in the second either, but faced seven break points during the match. He was equal to the task on all seven occasions and converted 2 of 5 break points the he held to win the one hour and 25 minute match 6-3, 7-5.

Tiafoe had won the opening round match 6-4, 6-4 in an hour and 15 minutes.

The 21-year-old American has been in brilliant form lately. He reached his maiden major semifinal at the U.S. Open this year and followed it up with a run to the final in Tokyo last month. It was his second final in 2022 following the runner-up finish in Estoril but he is yet to add to the only title he won at Delray Beach in 2018.

Tiafoe is 13-5 in the last 18 matches dating back to his opener at the U.S. Open. Can he keep improving that record in Paris?

Tough De Minaur Battles Past Medvedev

World no. 25 Alex de Minaur showed nerves of steel as he came back from a break down in a thrilling deciding set to seal a 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 victory over fourth seed Daniil Medvedev to advance to the third round of the Paris Masters for the third time in his career.

Medvedev, who was a semifinalist in Astana and the champion in Vienna last week, went up 2-0 in the final set, but the Aussie responded by winning the next three games. De Minaur then failed to capitalise on two match points on Medvedev’s serve in the 10th game, but eventually did convert one of the two in the final game to cause a huge upset.

The 23-year-old saved 12 of 15 breaking opportunities that Medvedev created in the match, while he converted 3 of the 10 break points that he held.

De Minaur, who has never reached a Masters 1000 quarterfinal, had also needed three sets to win his opening round contest, defeating Sebastian Korda 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. While he scored the first round win in two hours and 43 minutes, the second round match took four minutes longer.

De Minaur is now 45-23 in 2022.He captured his sixth title by triumphing in Atlanta for the second time and also had four semifinal finishes, including in Stockholm recently. Can he reach his first Masters quarterfinal on Thursday?

Tiafoe v De Minaur Prediction and Tip
