After an outstanding season, third seed Jack Draper would have hoped to end the season on a high but he didn’t get off to a good start in Milan, going down to Dominic Stricker in straight sets in his first match of the ATP Next Gen Finals.
The Briton, who came back from a break down in the first set, lost all the three sets in the tiebreak. He couldn’t create more breaking opportunities in the match, while his opponent held seven break points. However, Stricker too, converted just one break point and that was in the first set. The Swiss however, won the crucial moments in the tiebreak and was all pumped up after beating the top 50 player.
Ranked no. 41st in the world, the 20-year-old Draper was out-aced 10-14 by Stricker. He also hit eight fewer winners than Stricker’s 33.
The left-handed Draper, who was a quarterfinalist at the Canadian Masters and a semifinalist in Eastbourne earlier this year, had also won his first four Challenger titles this season.
He is 44-18 from all his matches and 17-12 on the tour. As a result of those numbers, Draper has climbed 224 places this season to career-high of no. 41. Can the Briton put the disappointing first match in Milan quickly behind him and register his first win on Wednesday?

Tseng Outclassed by Musetti
Sixth seed Tseng Chun-hsin was tamed by second seed Lorenzo Musetti in his opening match on Tuesday.
The Chinese Taipei was broken by Musetti four times in the match, while he converted just one of three break points during the 2-4, 2-4, 2-4 defeat in an hour and 11 minutes.
As a result of the drubbing in the first round, he is lying at the bottom of the Red Group.
Musetti was sharp on his serve and won 60% of the total points in the match. Tseng now has a mountain to climb. The world no. 90, who is 5-8 on the tour this year, will have to bring out his A-game on Wednesday to gve himself an outside chance of progressing.
The 21-year-old has featured in three Challenger finals this year, wining two of them. Most recently though he has been on a losing streak and Tuesday’s defeat was his fifth consecutive at any level. His last win came in teh opening round in Seoul. Can he end his losing streak with a surprise win over Draper?
Draper v Tseng Prediction and Tip
Draper has been successful in reaching a semifinal and two quarterfinals at the tour-level this year. He has had more experience of playing with the more experienced pros than his opponent and has troubled some big names this season. He will look to quickly overcome his first match setback and get his first win on Wednesday. Draper to win in three.
