Musetti Eases Past Tseng

Second seed Lorenzo Musetti got off to a fast start in Milan, scoring an easy straight sets win over Chinese Taipei’s Tseng Chun-hsin.

The world no. 23 broke Tseng in the first game of the match, but the Chinese Taipei responded with a break in the very next game, only to see the Italian restore the advantage in the next game. Musetti didn’t make another mistake in the match. He took the first set and broke once in each of the next two sets to win the match 4-2, 4-2, 4-2 in just an hour and 11 minutes.

The 20-year-old, who is 33-25 on the tour this year, won 895 points on the back of his first delivery. He also struck 17 winners and won 11 of 14 net points.

It has been a strong season for the Italian, who won the first two titles of his career in Hamburg and Napoli, defeating Carlos Alcaraz and Matteo Berrettini respectively.

He has also taken giant strides in the rankings and broken in the top 30 for the first time. Currently sitting on a career-high ranking of no. 23, he will look to score a second win on Wednesday.

Stricker Makes a Strong Start

Dominic Stricker was all pumped up as he made a stunning start at the 21-and-under year-ending finale on Tuesday.

The World no. 111 didn’t drop a set as he put up a gritty show to win three tiebreaks in a row against the more fancied Jack Draper in the Red Group.

As a result of the win, the Swiss player went up 1-0 and now occupies the second spot in the group.

Stricker got an early break in the first set, but saw Draper take the set into the tiebreak. Draper threatened when he went up 4-5 in the tiebreak with a mini-break advantage, but Stricker came back strong winning three points in a row and taking the opening set.

There were no breaks in the second and once again the set was decided in the tiebreak. Stricker was up 6-3, but Draper got two min-breaks back to give himself a chance. However, Stricker got a third mini-break to go 2-0 up in the match.

The third set saw Stricker squander four match points at 2-3 on Draper’s serve, but he finished off the job in the tiebreak to win 4-3 (7-5), 4-3 (7-5), 4-3 (7-5) in an hour and 27 minutes.

Stricker won 86% points on his first serve and served 14 aces in the match. Stricker has won two Challenger titles this year and finished runner-up in a third final. The win on Tuesday has set the tone for the Swiss and he will be looking to use the momentum to surge ahead.
